About Dermatology Care of Alabama

Dermatology Care of Alabama was founded in 2017 by Dr. Robert Bentley, a Board-Certified Dermatologist with over 40 years of experience practicing medicine. We opened our practice on Veterans Memorial Parkway in Tuscaloosa and quickly grew our facility. In 2019 we moved to our brand new, 9,000+ square foot facility on Rice Mine Road near Lake Tuscaloosa. In addition to a spacious general dermatology clinic, we also operate a state-of-the-art Aesthetics Center, where our licensed aestheticians use the latest technology for cosmetic and aesthetic treatments.

We are conveniently located at 4960 Rice Mine Road NE Suite 40, Tuscaloosa, Al 35406. Our normal operating hours are Monday – Thursday from 8-5 and Friday from 8-12. We accept new patients and most major insurances are accepted in our clinic.

Dr. Robert Bentley comes to Dermatology Care of Alabama, known as a familiar face to Alabamians and a skilled and caring physician to patients. Dr. Bentley brings our patients over 40 years of experience in medical practice and a high level of skill and expertise in the field of Dermatology. Dr. Bentley is Board certified by the American Board of Dermatology and is a fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology.

He began private practice in 1974 and was an original founder of Alabama Dermatology Associates in Tuscaloosa, leading it to become one of the largest dermatology practices in the southeast. Graduating from the University of Alabama School of Medicine in 1968, Dr. Bentley also served as a General Medical Officer as a Captain in the United States Air Force and later served as Hospital Commander at Pope Air Force Base. Dr. Bentley completed his Residency in Dermatology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

Four decades in medical practice helped Dr. Bentley develop a knowledge and keen instinct for patient care that earned him a loyal following over the years. While still in full time practice, Dr. Bentley’s call to service led him to be elected and serve in the Alabama House of Representatives from 2002-2010.  Dr. Bentley retired from private practice in 2010 when he was overwhelmingly elected by the people of the state to serve as Alabama’s 53rd Governor. During his time in public service, Dr. Bentley prioritized the needs of the average Alabamian, drawing particular attention to rural and impoverished parts of the state, and led efforts to bring not only well-paying jobs, but also qualified physicians and greater access to healthcare to those areas of Alabama.

Dr. Bentley has served as a Board member for the Tuscaloosa Family Counseling Services and is a member of The Alabama Dermatology Society and Medical Association of the State of Alabama. He has been recognized by students of the University of Alabama School of Medicine College of Community Health Sciences for his outstanding instruction as an Assistant Clinical Professor.

Dr. Bentley volunteers monthly with non-profit Great State Alabama, holding free Skin Cancer Screenings and free Dermatology clinics in underserved areas across Alabama.   He was recognized in 2017 by the American Academy of Dermatology for his efforts to contribute and participate in the AAD's "Spot Me" Skin Cancer screening program.

He is Dad to four adult sons, Papa to nine grandchildren and two rescue cats, Millie and Rosie, and is a member of Church of the Highlands in Tuscaloosa.
