Surgery is not the only option in treating your skin cancer.
Dermatology Care of Alabama has partnered with SkinCure Oncology to offer patients Superficial Radiation Treatment (SRT) for non-melanoma skin cancer. Chris Hannon, the onsite Radiation Therapist, administers this non-invasive and non-surgical alternative treatment for non-melanoma Basal and squamous cell carcinomas.
Unlike traditional radiation therapy which involves treatment within the body, the Sensus SRT-100 machine is a small portable device which delivers a very low energy that penetrates just below the surface of the skin. Because of the utilization of the low energies typical skin reaction is usually mild, which commonly causes irritation and redness. A full regimen consists of 20 to 25 treatments, 3 to 4 times a week for a clinical outcome of 95%+ efficacy. During the treatments a patient can expect to be present for 15 to 30 minutes depending on how many areas need to be treated. The actual delivery of radiation is typically 20 to 25 seconds and is completely painless which allows patients to maintain a quality of life with no downtime or discontinued use of critical medications.
SRT: Basal and Squamous Cell Carcinoma Radiation Treatments - Offering Patients an Option that is Painless and does not Require, Numbing, Cutting, Stitches or Reconstructive Surgery.
By delivering a precise, calibrated dose of Superficial Radiation Therapy that only goes skin deep, patients can be safely treated right in their physician’s office. Each treatment is virtually painless.
Low-dose Superficial Radiation Therapy effectively destroys basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma, as well as the non-malignant tumor cells that cause keloids. Best of all, it doesn’t involve cutting, bleeding or stitching. With the SRT-100™, there is no need for anesthesia, minimal risk of infection or scarring, no need for reconstructive plastic surgery. Patients heal quickly and don’t have downtime or lifestyle restrictions following treatment.
Sensus Healthcare’s SRT-100™ has been cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of non-melanoma skin cancer and keloids.
For years the mainstay of treatment for Basal and Squamous Cell Carcinomas (referred to as Non-Melanoma Skin Cancers) has been surgery. While effective, the surgical procedures required numbing, cutting, stitches, and sometimes reconstructive plastic surgery.
